How much gold can you take out of the UAE?

There is no limit. What there is, is a declaration duty once your cash, metals and gemstones together reach AED 60,000. Add yours up below.

Carrying gold across the UAE border. Frequently asked questions

How much gold can I take out of the UAE?

There is no upper limit on the amount of personal gold or jewellery you may carry out of the UAE. What the law requires is a declaration: if the combined value of your cash, precious metals and gemstones reaches AED 60,000 or more, you must declare it before you travel. Carrying gold out of the UAE attracts no export duty.

What is the AED 60,000 rule in the UAE?

Any traveller entering or leaving the UAE carrying cash, precious metals, gemstones or bearer financial instruments with a combined value of AED 60,000 or more must file a declaration. It is an aggregate: AED 30,000 in cash plus a gold chain worth AED 35,000 totals AED 65,000 and must be declared.

How do I declare gold at UAE customs?

File online through the ICP "Afseh" portal at declare.customs.ae, or the Afseh mobile app, before you reach border inspection. You can also declare at the customs counter at the airport.

Does the declaration rule apply when entering the UAE too?

Yes. The AED 60,000 threshold applies identically in both directions, on arrival and on departure.

What happens if I do not declare?

Failing to declare above the threshold breaches UAE anti-money-laundering rules. Undeclared items can be confiscated and you may face fines and legal action.

Do children count towards the limit?

Travellers under 18 cannot file their own declaration. Anything they carry is added to the total of the parent or guardian travelling with them.
