Using the per-gram price
The per-gram figures here are the metal value only, before any making charge or VAT. When you buy jewellery, a shop adds a negotiable making charge (commonly 3% to 15%, more for intricate work) and 5% VAT on that charge, so the shelf price is always a little above the raw per-gram rate.
