Karat measures how much of a piece is pure gold. More gold means a deeper yellow and more metal value, but also a softer piece that scratches and bends more easily. The right choice is less about \"best\" and more about how the piece will live on your body.
22K (916): colour and value
The Gulf favourite for a reason. 22K has that rich, warm yellow and the highest everyday gold content short of pure bars. It is ideal for necklaces, bangles and gifting, where look and value lead. It is softer, so it suits pieces that are worn carefully or kept for occasions.
21K (875): the all-rounder
Very popular across the UAE. 21K keeps most of the warm colour of 22K while being a touch more durable, which makes it a comfortable middle choice for rings, bracelets and pieces you wear often but still want to look distinctly gold.
18K (750): built for daily wear
18K has more alloy, so it is noticeably harder and holds detail and stones better. The colour is a slightly paler yellow. For an everyday ring, a watch, or anything with diamonds and gemstones, 18K is usually the sensible pick.
A simple rule
Match karat to wear. Occasion and gift pieces: 22K. Everyday pieces you still want richly gold: 21K. Rings, stone settings and hard daily wear: 18K. Whatever you choose, the hallmark (916, 875, 750) confirms exactly what you are getting.
